I've not yet taken part in an ULTRA event but I am in training for them! This page is dedicated to those who would like to take part in an ULTRA week in Central France and crank out 900km over the 6 ride days. I ride every kilometer with you by the way.
We can accommodate up to 10 people at any one time. The price of 580 euros pp (based on 2 sharing) includes a great deal. See below and ''What's included''. There is NO support vehicle on the rides. Just us. I suggest we ride as a group and use this time to train in our zones and have a social time of it both on the bikes and around base. A great oppertunity to swap info and tips.
I can not see why we can't roll at around 24 to 28kph, on average, making the longest ride around 8 hours in the saddle. If we work as a group, respecting our own 'endurance zones' as we go, we will conserve energy and get back to base far fresher and in better shape to face the next day. Base is my home and has been since 2002. It is a large, 8 bed house, down a cul-de-sac and very peaceful.
The terrain here is rolling to hilly. Each day we ride in a differing direction so that you can take in this amazing part of France. And like an Ultra event...rain or shine we ride. There is very, very little traffic on the roads and they are in good condition. At around the half way point we'll stop for refreshments including a bite to eat.
There are a lot of long drags of 3-6km at 2-5% and some 8-12% slopes in places.
The idea is to ride each day as follows give or take:
Day 1: 150km Day 2: 180km Day 3: 150km Day 4: 100km Day 5: 150km Day 6: 170km
NOTE: On day 4 we'll leave a little later at around 9.30 or 10.00am. On this ride we will pick up the pace a bit and aim to complete the ride by 1.15pm (28.5kph). This way you can have the afternoon off to relax and rest. I'll make something simple for lunch!
The total for the 6 days will take us just over 900km's and an impressive 12,750m
of elevation gain. Or as I like to put it, around 1.40% for each and every km ridden. I use this simple system to help me predict what speed I should average for a particular ride in my zones
DATES FOR 2021: JUNE 13-20 & JULY 4-12
Breakfast is available as from 7.30 to 8.15am every day. It's an 'eat all you can' type of thing and will include: Cereals, yoghurts, home made flapjacks, home made breads, croissants, pain au chocolates, teas (inc flavoured) fresh coffee, fruits etc. The aim is to fuel up and be on the bikes by 9am. On the longer rides of 170 and 180 km we need to be on the bikes by 8.30am so sitting down to breakfast at 7.30 am would be advisable.
Post ride snacks (to keep you going until dinner) will be some of the above plus cakes, biscuits, home made scones, pasta etc. I know how important fuel is to an Ultra athlete and you will not go hungry. Promise!
Evening meals are served at around 7pm as I am aware that some like to be in bed by 9.30-10pm. There are 4 courses served with wine. Beers are in the client fridge so just help yourself.
